Service Learning

DO NOT USE THE X2VOL MOBILE APP - For the best, full X2vol experience, students should use a web browser. This allows you to see the X2vol dashboard, access notes regarding the status of your hours, and navigate the additional features not available on the mobile app.

FAQs:

Q: My hours aren’t approved, but I don’t know why.

A: Click Opportunities and Projects then My Activity Log. Click Edit Entry and scroll to the bottom to see the activity and comments. Have the hours been verified? If not, you can also re-send verification requests to your opportunity contacts from this page as well.

Q: I can’t remember if I’ve submitted the Service Learning Approval Form (SL form) for my personal project.

A: Just submit it again to be safe.

Q: Can hours through my church count for GCS Service Learning?

A: It depends. Religious service such as serving as an acolyte or teaching Sunday School don’t count, but opportunities like serving the homeless or providing a non-religious event for the broader community can. Submit a SL form in advance.

Approved Opportunities vs. Personal Projects

Community & Campus Opportunities: These are pre-approved clubs and activities conducted by / through / with Page High School or Guilford County Schools. Students will select these from "Find Opportunities" in X2vol. Once you've added them to your opportunities list, they will show automatically when you go to "Add Hours."

Personal Projects: These are outside opportunities and nonprofits. Students must complete the Service Learning Approval Form and receive approval from Ms. Rich before logging these hours as "Personal Projects" in X2Vol.

Drives, & Donation-Based Service

2024 Update: GCS has updated their policies around service learning hours earned through donation-based projects.

Students can earn hours through active participation in planning and execution of drives (organizing the drive, promoting the event, collecting and sorting donations).

Students cannot earn hours simply for donating items. Visit the GCS Service Learning Website for more information.

Finding Service Opportunities

Students can participate in volunteer activities through clubs and organizations affiliated with Page and GCS. They can also volunteer with community organizations as long as they've completed their Service Learning Approval Form prior to logging the hours. Clubs like Key Club, LEO Club, DECA, and Team Voyage pride themselves on completing meaningful service for Page.

We have partnerships with well-known nonprofits in the area such as BackpackBeginnings and GreenHill Center for NC Art. See below for the list of Pre-Approved Opportunities. From X2vol.com, click "Find Opportunities" to see all pre-approved opportunities.

Click here for a list of other community opportunities for students ages 11-18 from The Volunteer Center of the Triad.
